Damien Moore MP turns postman for the day in Southport

Share:

Damien Moore MP was involved in delivering the post when he joined a local post man on his delivery round in Southport last week.

Damien was invited to see for himself the lengths Royal Mail goes to in delivering the UK’s mail. As valued members of the local community, our postmen and postwomen deliver letters and parcels in all weathers six days a week, across the UK.

Opportunities like this are designed to give MPs a unique insight into the challenges of delivering mail to every house and business in their constituency, six days a week. It also gives them an opportunity to see how the rise in e-commerce has boosted the number of parcels in the daily round.

Commenting, Adam Brown Royal Mail Delivery Manager said:

‘We are delighted that Damien Moore MP is taking the time to experience the everyday challenges faced by our postmen and postwomen who are so often at the heart of their communities.’

‘The visit gave us the opportunity to show Damien how we are continuing to modernise and transform our organisation. We have invested in new sorting and delivery equipment as we respond to the changing nature of the modern postbag. We’re also continually looking to make our services even better to give customers greater convenience as they shop online.’

Commenting, Damien Moore MP said:

‘Postmen and postwomen perform an incredibly important role across my constituency, not just delivering letters and parcels, but also for being part of an organisation that plays such a key role in keeping the UK connected.’

‘I wanted to get a real understanding of the work that goes into delivering the mail on a daily basis. There can be no better way of getting that insight than actually going out and doing the job alongside a postman or woman. I joined local post man Eddie who has been delivering mail to customers in Southport for over 35 years.’

Royal Mail is continuing to modernise its operation, which means every part of the process from collecting, transporting, sorting and delivering the mail is being improved to further increase efficiency. The company has also increased the number of notifications customers receive in order to bring greater levels of convenience.
